Meet The Artist!
Greetings!
My name is Nathan J. Baker, and I’m the wizard behind the magic of Stoned Hermit Studios.
I was born and raised in Northern Michigan. Where the long winters teach patience, the forests feel ancient, and quiet moments carry weight. It shaped the way I see the world to be more grounded, observant, and deeply attuned to atmosphere.
I hold a degree in Foundations of Fine Arts from Kirtland Community College, where I learned not just how to make images, but how to see and create — how composition, light, and intention turns everyday moments into something magical.
I’m drawn to feelings and vibes more than perfection. The quiet spaces. The overlooked details. The places where energy lingers and have a certain magic to them..
My work lives at the intersection of culture, documentary, landscape, and still life. I photograph people, places, and objects the way they feel, not just the way they look. I am chasing mood, texture, and the subtle magic woven through real life. Photography, for me, is a way of not just seeing but of listening and experiencing. Of slowing down. Of honoring stories as they are, without forcing them into something they’re not.
Spiritually, I’m a practicing druid and that worldview quietly informs everything I create. I see the world as alive in the same way we are. Shaped by cycles, stories, and unseen currents. That sense of reverence shows up in my work through patience, presence, and respect for the environments, cultures, and people I photograph.
My greatest inspirations come from National Geographic, Studio Ghibli, and J.R.R. Tolkien — where wonder feels grounded, adventure coexists with gentleness, and magic lives in the ordinary. Often described as a hobbit I love exploration and the pull of the unknown just as much as I love coziness and warmth.
Whether I’m documenting a culture, wandering a landscape, or finding poetry in everyday objects, my goal is always the same — to create images that resonate, linger, and let you feel the magic this world has to offer.
This is my way of seeing the world — reimagined, but always real.
